Govt stance on drone strikes unchanged: Pervaiz Rashid

Says the drone strikes started due to the policies of the past governments.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid says the government has not changed its stance on the issue of drone attacks, and stands by it as it used be when the PML-N was in opposition.
He said the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during his recent visit to Washington raised this issue with US President Obama.
Talking to media on Wednesday, he said the whole nation stands united on this issue and the international community was also supporting our stance.
He expressed the confidence the government would be successful in halting drone strikes soon.
“Today’s Pakistan is not being run by a dictator but a political government that has to consult other political parties in decision making.
Responding to a question, the minister said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also raised the issue of release of Dr Aafya Siddiqui during his visit to the United States which was never raised by the previous governments.
He said that the PTI government in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has failed to continue polio vaccination campaign in the province.
To a question‚ the minister said the government is working on a plan to ensure cheap electricity through coal and alternative resources and hoped load-shedding will be overcome gradually.
He said work is underway to complete 6600 MW coal power project in Gadani which would help improve the situation and provide cheap electricity to the people.
Pervaiz Rashid said the present government has taken serious steps to tackle complex issues which were ignored in the last five years.
He said successful efforts are under way to bring complete peace in Karachi besides improving law & order situation in Balochistan.
He said the government is making sincere efforts to revive the economy so that relief could be given to the people.
The government believed in freedom and protection of the citizens and no citizen had been abducted or gone missing during the last five months, he said.
The minister said the government will take all possible steps to save mega enterprises and national institutions to revive them and make them profitable.
The federal minster said that the Kashmir issue must be resolved according to resolutions of United Nations.
